Request/Response APIs
FlightStats offers an extensive library of Web Services APIs that provide a powerful information source for developing sophisticated applications for travel and transportation. Whether you are a software company developing products for sale or an in-house developer, the FlightStats APIs are unmatched in terms of breadth and richness of information. Our development tools and documentation will get you up to speed quickly enabling short development cycles.
A few of the more popular request/response Web Services include:
- Flight Status / Flight History - Access real-time flight status aggregated from multiple sources including government, airline and airport sources. Flight status can be queried by flight, route, airport departure or airport arrival. Results include operated and codeshare flights worldwide. Historical flight records can also be accessed using these services.
- Flight Availability - Provides flight availability on a route for non-stop and connecting flights. Availability by fare class and cabin is returned. Additional information such as current flight status and on-time performance ratings is also provided.
- Airport Services - Get information about airports including basic information, real-time airport delays, plus commands that aggregate airport information with current conditions and weather forecasts. Also includes a set of utility services that find airports based on zip code, region or territory.
- On-time Peformance Ratings - A statistically-based flight ranking service showing how a flight's recent on-time performance and delay history compared with other flights. Available as a request response API by flight, route, carrier and time of day. Also available is a On-time Performance Ratings Data Feed that can be used to populate a local database or cache.
- Weather Conditions and Forecasts - Gain access to current conditions worldwide and extended weather forecasts for every U.S. airport.
Refer to the Web Services Directory in the FlightStats Developer Center for a complete listing of services available.
Monitoring and Messaging APIs
Use our flight segment Event Messaging Services (EMS) to create and manage sophisticated notification rules that are used to trigger HTML email, long text email, short text email, XML/HTTP and SOAP messages according to your event specifications.

RSS Services
In addition to our request/response Web Services, we offer several RSS feeds that are ideal for developing custom applications based on FlightStats data. They include:
- Airport Status RSS - Several RSS feeds are available that provide airport delay information. In addition to an FAA Airport Delays RSS feed, we offer our own proprietary worldwide Airport Delay Index RSS feed.
- Flight Status RSS - Display the status of a flight in an RSS reader, or build an application with a custom user interface using our Flight Status RSS feed. Query for the status of a specific flight, or all non-stop flights operating between an origin and destination airport.
Learn more about the FlightStats RSS feeds by visiting our RSS Directory.
Data Feeds
Data feeds are an ideal mechanism for receiving FlightStats information where having a local cache of data is important. There are currently two types of data feeds supported:
- Flight Status Data Feed - The Flight Status Data Feed is comprised of a set of files containing all flight change events processed by the FlightStats platform. The application builds the files in time slices of 1 minute. To access the feed, applications make HTTP GET requests upon a servlet at FlightStats.
- On-time Performance Data Feed - The FlightStats On-Time Performance Rating is a statistically-based comparative metric based on actual flight performance and is useful in evaluating the delay risk associated with a set of flight options. Ratings are based on the previous 60 days of actual performance and updated twice monthly. The data feed is an ideal delivery option for applications where a local cache or database of all ratings is needed.
Learn more about these data feeds in the Developer Center.
Digital Signage and FIDS Solutions
In addition to data feeds and Web Services, FlightStats offers two solutions for building airport FIDS displays and flight boards for hotels: A FIDS Widget and a FIDS XML Service. Both approaches offer a highly configurable solution for creating custom flight departure and arrival screens.
